Sarpy County encourages eligible residents to submit applications for Nebraska homestead property tax relief
Papillion, Nebraska – Sarpy County Assessor Dan Pittman has announced the availability of the 2025 Nebraska Homestead Exemption Application, inviting eligible property owners to apply for valuable property tax relief. The homestead exemption program helps reduce the burden of property taxes by exempting part or all of the taxable value of a qualified individual’s primary residence.
This exemption is available to three primary groups of Nebraska residents:
-
Individuals aged 65 or older
-
Qualified disabled persons
-
Qualified disabled veterans and their surviving spouses
The exemption is designed to support those on fixed or limited incomes, with income thresholds and property value caps applied to determine eligibility. These limitations operate on a sliding scale to reflect a homeowner’s specific financial situation.
To apply, residents must file Form 458 with the Sarpy County Assessor’s Office by June 30, 2025. Those who qualified for and received a homestead exemption in 2024 will automatically receive a renewal form by mail. However, all applicants — including past recipients — are required to complete and return their forms to the Assessor’s Office in order to qualify for the upcoming year.
First-time applicants can request Form 458 directly from the Sarpy County Assessor’s Office or through the Nebraska Department of Revenue. The form is also available to download from the Department of Revenue’s website.
“The homestead exemption helps provide much-needed tax relief to some of our most vulnerable residents,” said Assessor Dan Pittman. “We want to make sure everyone who qualifies is aware of this opportunity and knows how to apply.”
For questions or assistance with the application process, residents are encouraged to contact the Sarpy County Assessor’s Office directly.
