Youth Council invites La Vista residents to join spring creek clean-up effort

La Vista, Nebraska – The La Vista Mayor’s Youth Council is calling on residents and students to join them for a community clean-up along Thompson Creek on Saturday, April 12. This hands-on event is part of the Youth Council’s annual community project and offers a chance for local volunteers to give back while supporting environmental stewardship.

The cleanup will take place from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Volunteers are asked to meet at the shelter in Central Park East, located at 7702 Edgewood Blvd., where cleanup supplies will be distributed and safety instructions shared. Volunteers will work together to remove trash and debris along Thompson Creek, a key natural area in the city.

This effort is an opportunity for students seeking volunteer hours or residents looking to engage in a meaningful local project. All participants are required to sign a waiver in order to take part. For those 19 and older, waivers can be signed individually. Minors 14 and older will need to have a parent or guardian co-sign, while those under 14 must have a parent or guardian complete and sign the form on their behalf. Waivers can be downloaded in advance as a PDF or completed at the event site before the cleanup begins.

To ensure comfort and safety while working in and around the creek bed, participants are strongly encouraged to wear sturdy footwear and long pants that they don’t mind getting dirty or wet. All necessary cleaning equipment will be supplied by the Youth Council.

Volunteers will be playing a key role in improving the local environment and supporting the health of Thompson Creek, a natural resource that runs through the heart of La Vista. This initiative not only promotes civic responsibility but also highlights the energy and leadership of La Vista’s youth.
