Nebraska Department of Transportation launches bridge deck repair project along US 281 south of Saint Paul
St. Paul, Nebraska – The Nebraska Department of Transportation has announced that construction is officially underway as of April 9 on a significant infrastructure project along U.S. Highway 281, just south of St. Paul. Work is taking place at reference post 92+39, with JMN Construction, LLC of Valley selected as the primary contractor.
Scope of the Project and Timeline
This comprehensive project will involve critical structural upgrades and safety improvements. Planned work includes bridge deck repairs, pile driving, construction of new grade beams and approaches, asphalt overlay, guardrail upgrades, and joint replacement. The Nebraska Department of Transportation has set the anticipated completion date for August 2025, depending on weather conditions and project progress.
To manage traffic during construction, temporary traffic signals will be installed to guide vehicles through the work zone. Drivers should also be aware that a 14-foot width restriction will be in place for the duration of the project, which may affect large trucks or wide-load vehicles.
Safety First in the Work Zone
The Nebraska Department of Transportation urges all motorists traveling in and near the construction zone to drive cautiously, wear seatbelts, and avoid phone use while driving. These steps are critical to ensuring the safety of both workers and drivers.
This project marks another investment in the state’s infrastructure to improve safety, functionality, and long-term durability for Nebraska’s road network. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time for travel along US-281 as the improvement work continues.
