An Omaha resident has been arrested for obstructing traffic after part of 72nd Street was closed for over 12 hours

OMAHA, Nebraska – Omaha police blocked off part of 72nd Street for over 12 hours over the weekend.

Officers were called to 72nd and Western Avenues at 3:12 p.m. Sunday, according to the Omaha Police Department. They were told that someone was threatening to jump off the footbridge.

Police identified the man from a previous incident that also lasted more than 12 hours, in which he allegedly threatened to jump off a roof.

The incident at 72nd and Western Avenue continued until 3:30 am Monday, when the man stepped off the bridge.

Police then arrested the 46-year-old man after he allegedly ignored orders not to run. Police say the man started running back to the bridge when he realized he was about to be arrested.

The man was charged with obstructing traffic, obstructing a government operation, obstructing a peace officer, and resisting arrest.
