Gunman killed at Target in West Omaha, police say

OMAHA, Nebraska – The man shooting a target in West Omaha was killed, police said Tuesday.

Officers were dispatched to Target near 180th Street and West Center Road around noon after receiving multiple calls about an active shooter.

Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said officers entered the building and shot the gunman.

The suspect, who according to Schmaderer was a white male in his thirties, was later pronounced dead at the scene.

An initial investigation showed the gunman had entered Target with an AR-15 rifle and fired “multiple shots.”

Schmaderer said officers were unable to find any other victims inside the store or at local hospitals.

Responding officers shot the suspect who was armed with a shotgun. No victims are currently in Target or local hospitals. All witnesses who have left the area are urged to call 402-444-4877 to report information.
