What caused the death of Hollywood actor Humphrey Bogart at a young age?
While on set, Bogart portrayed characters who smoked, drank, and got into fights with other men. However, in real life, it was his addiction to nicotine that caused him esophageal cancer. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), tobacco smoke contains over 7,000 chemicals.
“At least 70 of these are known to cause cancer in humans or animals,” the CDC adds.
The UK Cancer Study highlights that smoking “causes at least 15 different types of cancer”.
The charity adds: “Both how much you smoke and how long you smoke affects your risk of developing cancer.
“The number of years you spend smoking has the biggest impact on your risk of developing cancer. Therefore, it is important to make a plan to completely quit smoking.”
