Wednesday night crash in Davenport fatal for one person, one sustained critical injuries

DAVENPORT, Iowa – According to Iowa State Police, one person was murdered and another was badly injured when a vehicle chase resulted in a crash in Davenport on Wednesday night.

A crash report indicates that around 8:16 p.m., troopers engaged in a pursuit with a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup vehicle.

The pickup truck driver lost control, struck an embankment, and rolled before coming to a halt at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Pleasant Street.

Alecia M. Garcia, 24 years old, was found inside the vehicle and proclaimed dead at the spot. Damonte Stewart, age 31, was transferred to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. His health status was unclear.

Troopers did not explain why they pursued the vehicle.

After the collision, police closed off a part of Eastern Avenue for debris removal. This section of roadway has since reopened.

The probe is still active.
