Wednesday morning fire in Lincoln fatal for one person, LPD identified the victim

Lincoln, Nebraska – Crews with the Lincoln Police Department and Lincoln Fire and Rescue were dispatched at the scene to a residential building off 16th and Washington Streets after someone reported a smoke coming from a partially enclosed stairwell attached to a building.

When crews arrived at the scene around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, they found a male victim on fire with a burning candle nearby.

The first responders cleared the scene and they pronounced the victim dead at the scene with considerable burns.

Local authorities later identified the victim as Terry Barry.

Fortunately, the structure was not caught on fire as the fire crews extinguished the fire on time before further spreading. There is ongoing investigation performed by the Lincoln Police Department and inspector which should reveal what had happened prior to first responders’ arrival.

Police said immediate visual identification was not possible because of the severity of the burns on the body.

An autopsy is scheduled in this case.
