‘Volatile’ machete-wielding man learns the hard way that weapons work better after taking a child hostage

A California man who was holding a child hostage and brandishing a police machete was shot and killed on Tuesday after clashing with police.

The incident took place in San Jacinto in Riverside County around 1:00 pm. news release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputies were summoned to the address after reporting a domestic quarrel.

“The woman reported that her boyfriend was behaving erratically and armed with a machete. The woman managed to escape from the house, but the suspect prevented her from leaving her 12-year-old child, ”the report says.

“When the deputies tried to save the minor, the suspect hit the deputy on the head with a wooden object, causing minor injury, and then swung the machete at another deputy,” the report says.

The child was not hurt, the report said, but the man, armed machete was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two deputies were injured. One was helped on the spot. The other was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The names of the deputies were not disclosed. Both MPs have been placed on paid administrative leave.

The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the shooting.

According to the San Jacinto Unified School District, the nearby Hyatt Elementary School was on lockdown at the time of the incident. press enterprise.

The incident comes five days after Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy Isaiah Cordero, 32, was shot dead during a traffic stop.
