Two Lincoln juveniles discovered a hand grenade while walking down a riverbank northwest of Seward on Sunday afternoon

LINCOLN, Nebraska – Sunday afternoon, two youths discovered a hand grenade while wandering along a riverbed northwest of Seward, according to the Seward County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to the area of 294th Road and Bluff Road and contacted the Nebraska State Patrol Bomb Squad for assistance.

The trooper assessed that the object was a live fragmentation grenade, and the bomb squad detonated it in a controlled manner at the scene.

The Seward County Sheriff’s Office would like to urge anyone who comes into contact with an unexploded bomb to report it to the nearest law enforcement agency and leave it alone.
