Tragedy: ‘Joyful’ teenager was stabbed by six people in New York – he was on the verge of graduation
The senseless wave of violence that swept through New York washed away another life.
Nyheem Wright, 17, of Brooklyn, died Saturday from injuries sustained in an attack on him Friday after school.
Police said six teenagers followed Wright to Coney Island. New York Post.
He made it to the Rite Aid parking lot – about a mile from the school – before being overpowered in what police believe was a gang-related assault.
Wright attended K728 Liberation Diploma Plus High School, New York City Council member Ari Kagan said. facebook.
During the beating, one of the suspects stabbed Wright in the back. WABC TV.
Wright made it to the nearest office and received a 911 call. He was taken to Maimonides Medical Center, but died there the next day.
Kagan posted on facebook that Wright suffered lung collapse and a punctured vein.

New York School Chancellor David Banks posted a series of tweets about Wright’s death.
“This week, our students have repeatedly suffered from senseless acts of violenceand tonight we mourn the utterly tragic loss of life,” he wrote.

“Tonight I spoke to the director of this young man who described him as a joyful leader. He was about to graduate and was a hardworking worker who took an active part in guiding other young people in his school. Our city is suffering because of these losses,” he wrote.

Precinct 60, which covers Coney Island, is rapid growth crimes according to New York Daily News.
As of January 15, the police were investigating 26 criminal offenses, which is 160% more than at the beginning of 2022.
Burglary and major theft also increased compared to the beginning of 2023.
