Three-vehicle crash north of Greenwood Wednesday night fatal for one person, police

GREENWOOD, Nebraska – Wednesday night, a collision north of Greenwood claimed the life of a female victim and wounded three others.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Highway 6 and Greenwood Drive about 10 p.m., according to Greenwood Fire Chief Mark Sobota.

According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, an eastbound Hummer collided with an eastbound Toyota Scion near the intersection of HWY 6 and Greenwood Drive, forcing the Toyota to slide into a ditch.

According to investigators, the Hummer driver then collided head-on with a Ford Fusion traveling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Fusion, Greenwood resident Tammy Callaway, 42, was declared dead at the scene. Two occupants of the Toyota sustained just minor injuries.

Cheyanne Baker, age 31 and a resident of Lincoln, was identified as the Hummer’s driver. She was transported by EMS to a hospital in Lincoln with significant but non-life-threatening injuries, according to a CCSO press statement. It is unknown if charges will be brought.

Prior to the collision, the sheriff’s office stated it had received reports of a Hummer driver driving dangerously.

The Nebraska State Patrol and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office are conducting an investigation.

Thursday around 4:00 a.m., Highway 6 between Church Road and Highway 63 reopened after being blocked.
