The suspenseful video shows NYC cops clearing playing kids off the street just blocks from U-Haul’s wild rampage.
Pulsating body camera footage captured dozens of children frantically fleeing Brooklyn’s play street at the urging of NYPD cops—a few blocks from a U-Haul driver who allegedly hit several pedestrians during the morning rage.
clip, tweeted by the NYPD on Tuesday evening, shows cops exiting their vehicle next to a blocked street where young children played in front of Bay Ridge Prep School on Ridge Boulevard near 81st Street on Monday.
When the police officers rushed to the children, adults joined them, you can hear the officer shouting: “Let’s go! Inside! Guys, get off the street! Inside the school!
The footage cuts as the children run back to school.
“On Monday morning, as a man brutally drove a U-Haul truck and stabbed people just blocks away, these 68th Precinct officers kicked dozens of elementary school students, teachers and staff off this Brooklyn Playstreet in an attempt to save lives.” – the message says. The NYPD signed the video.
“This is a district police force and your officer’s actions once again illustrate the NYPD’s unwavering commitment to protecting the communities we serve.”
The suspect, identified by police as Veng Sor, 62, drove his U-Haul through Bay Ridge, to Dyker Heights and back to Bay Ridge, striking at least eight people, authorities said.
Three of the victims were on a bicycle, three on a moped, one on an electric bike and one on foot when they were hit, officials said.
Yijie Ye, 44, a father of three who took a job as an Uber Eats driver to help feed his children, was killed during the riots.
According to police, Ye was hit on Bay Ridge Boulevard and Fifth Avenue and suffered a serious head injury. He died from his injuries at NYU Langone-Brooklyn.

Mohammed Salah Rakch, 36, was placed in a medically induced coma after he was stabbed at Fourth Avenue and 55th Street in Sunset Park.
He is the married father of a 3 year old boy and a 7 year old girl.
Police said Sor, who has a long list of charges in Nevada and a history of mental illness, was about to commit suicide with the help of a police officer.
He has been charged with murder as well as seven attempted murders, NYPD Chief James Essig said at a press conference on Tuesday.
Sor, who was suffering from a “mental crisis,” told police he was provoked by an “invisible object” approaching his truck when he allegedly unleashed Monday morning fun, Essig said.
“He claims that when he drives his van, he sees an invisible object approaching the car, at which point he says: ‘I’ve had enough’ and starts to run amok,” a police spokesman told reporters.
His indictment was expected on Wednesday morning.
