The eighth annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival hosted by McKinney
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (Nebraska) – St. Patrick’s Day isn’t usually hard to find a good feast, and McKinney’s Irish Pub is one of many places that offer it. The bar hosts its eighth annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival on the Grand Island.
They are serving up their famous Irish dishes, along with complimentary goodies. They also had a Lucky Charms food contest, and instead of milk with your cereal, it was Guinness. Officials said they took responsibility for organizing a St. Patrick’s Day event.
“We take this event very seriously every year,” said Nathan Stewart, owner of McKinney’s Irish Pub. “We have a lot of people looking forward to the event. Especially when it takes place on a day like a Friday, there is a lot of excitement during March Madness for people to descend. Especially for drinking green beer, watching basketball games, entering our Lucky Charms contest and just hanging out and having fun.
Stewart said that as the only Irish bar in town, it was special to host this event.
“It’s something the community needs to do,” Stewart said. “It’s something they continue to look forward to every year. Under normal weather we would have a bigger event going on but with the cold weather we had to cancel our outdoor event.
Stewart said there would be a block party, with a DJ to provide entertainment, but the weather had other plans. Even without the outdoor entertainment, customers still enjoyed themselves and shared what they love about their vacation.
“Probably just friends and people you meet,” said Lindsey Kluthe. “So, like everybody celebrates St. Patrick’s Day, so it’s a lot of fun to go out and go out and see who likes to be Irish and go out and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.”
Kluthe said dressing for St. Patrick’s Day makes her more excited about celebrating one of her favorite holidays.
