LINCOLN, Nebraska (Nebraska). Lincoln police said the driver who caused the crash that closed down a section of O Street on Wednesday night fled the scene.
Lincoln Police and the Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded to the accident on O Street near 52nd Street at around 5:15 p.m. Police said they received a call telling them that a black SUV had been involved in an accident and the driver fled on foot.
Witnesses told police they were driving east on O Street with the driver of the black SUV behind them. Witnesses said the SUV moved into the right turn lane between 48th and 50th Streets to try to avoid other vehicles, but when the turn lane ended, the SUV continued on the south sidewalk, crossed 52nd Street and crashed into concrete barrier on Jiffy road. Police said the driver went to a local hospital with minor injuries from the crash.
A 20-year-old man was prosecuted and released for leaving the scene of an accident, intentionally drunk driving and driving during a recall.
