Sweden sets a new record, almost 40,000 newly infected in one day – restrictions until mid-February

A record number of newly infected people with the coronavirus have been registered in Sweden in the last 24 hours – 39,938, the Swedish Health Agency announced today.

The previous record number of 39,321 infected with covid-19 was recorded two days earlier, on January 18.

The Swedish government has recently introduced new restrictions as the more contagious variant of omicron spreads rapidly and burdens the country’s healthcare system.

Last week, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Anderson became infected with the coronavirus.
