Someone pretended to be a Lincoln police officer and scammed a victim, report

LINCOLN, Nebraska – Thursday, Lincoln Police responded to a fraudster who claimed to be an LPD officer.

At approximately 10:24 p.m., officers arrived to the 400 block of S. 10th Street in response to an allegation of fraud.

The Los Angeles Police Department called a 43-year-old lady who claimed to be the victim of a fraud. The victim reported receiving a call from someone portraying themselves as an LPD officer. The caller asserted that the victim missed a subpoena and faced either civil/criminal consequences or a $6,000 fine.

The victim was then instructed to purchase many gift cards and forward the information to the caller. During the purchase of some of the cards, a store worker inquired further and alerted the victim that they were possibly the target of a scam.

The total stated loss is $4,500.
