Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio has been added to the federal witness list to testify in the money laundering trial against Fugees star Pras Mitchell. The famous musician is accused of laundering millions from the Malaysian sovereign wealth fund, some of which was used to finance the movie “The Wolf of Wall Street”.
DiCaprio must appear in court on November 4 in the money laundering case, as he has been named as a witness in the trial. He is accused of complicity in money laundering for the crew that also helped finance the actor’s film The Wolf of Wall Street. It is a figure of several billion dollars.
According to American media, rapper Mitchell is connected to the illegal actions of a Malaysian entrepreneur who embezzled billions of dollars from the state fund there. He allegedly received between $8 million and $40 million for participating in the scams. His associate in this illegal business fled the country and is hiding from the competent authorities.
DiCaprio unwittingly got involved when he agreed to let Mitchell help finance The Wolf of Wall Street, but once he learned of the lawsuit filed against the rapper, he immediately contacted the Justice Department to help with the investigation.
Otherwise, this will not be the first time for DiCaprio to participate in court proceedings as a witness of financial fraud. He went through a similar situation in 2019 when he was called out for behind-the-scenes actions related to the director Martin Scorsese in whose film he starred.
Pras Mitchell is a 49-year-old rapper who is still well remembered by the public for his involvement in the hip-hop group “Fugees,” and his name is associated with 40-year-old Malaysian businessman Joe Low, who has since become a fugitive. and who allegedly embezzled billions from Malaysia’s state economic development fund 1Malaysia Development Berhard, better known as 1MDB.
