Scooter’s Coffee named GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title holder for the largest cake in the world
LINCOLN, Neb. (Nebraska) – Scooter’s Coffee was named the new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title holder for the world’s largest cake ball on Wednesday.
At Scooter’s Coffee’s annual GROW conference in Omaha, they revealed the approximately 848-pound birthday-themed cake that was baked from scratch for Scooter’s Coffee’s 25th birthday. The cake was designed, baked and assembled by 30 employees of Harvest Roasting, a subsidiary of Scooter’s Coffee.
Official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS judge Brittany Dunn attended the GROW Conference to certify the record. The world’s largest golf ball was 628 lbs.
The Scooter’s Coffee provided interesting facts about the world’s largest cake:
- 690 pounds of dough were used.
- 6,430 bites of Scooter’s coffee cake would fit inside the world’s largest cake ball.
- The Cake Ball is 33 inches wide and 32 inches tall.
- Many tests have been completed to determine the stiffness of the Cake Ball.
- While countless hours of planning and testing went into it, the Cake Ball took just two hours to assemble and frost at the GROW Conference.
“Making the world’s largest cake ball for our Scooter’s Coffee family demonstrates the fact that Scooter’s® in-store baked goods are handmade from scratch at our sister company, Harvest Roasting, to deliver fresh baked goods and delicious to customers across Scooter’s Coffee 29-state footprint,” said Joe Thornton, president of Scooter’s Coffee, LLC.
Harvest Roasting employees worked for several weeks on the world’s largest ball. During that time, employees put together eleven cake layers that each weighed between 15 and 100 pounds, applied 150 pounds of buttercream frosting, and 50 sprinkles that each weighed 2.5 pounds, according to Scooter’s Coffee.
“I am proud of this team working seamlessly towards an extraordinary goal of setting a new world record,” said Craig Stevenson, vice president, production at Harvest Roasting. “It’s a validation of who we are at Harvest Roasting and shows that we can achieve anything in the future.”
According to Scooter’s Coffee, the cake ball will be sliced and served to more than 1,500 employees, executives, franchises and coffee bean farmers attending the 25th birthday celebration at the conference, and any remaining slices will be donated to Saving Grace Perishable Food Rescue. One of the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS requirements was that the cake had to be eaten or donated so that there was no food waste.
