Saunders County Sheriff’s Office releases name of woman killed in head-on collision
LINCOLN, Nebraska (Nebraska) — The Saunders County Sheriff’s Office released the name of a 24-year-old woman who was killed in a two-vehicle collision Wednesday night in Saunders County.
The accident happened on Highway 79 four miles north of Prague, about 45 miles north of Lincoln, around 8:45 pm.
Authorities said Payton R. Pruett, 20, of Lincoln, was driving a Toyota Camry when they crossed the center line and crashed into a Buick Regal carrying two adults and two children. All five were taken to the Fremont Methodist Hospital and later transferred to the University of Nebraska Medical Center at Omaha.
Jekylin J. Potter-Backend, 24, of Prague, died at UNMC, officials said. The man who was driving, 26-year-old Rory H. Bakendal from Prague, remains in the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. A three-year-old child sustained life-threatening injuries, while a six-year-old suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
A 20-year-old driver of a Toyota Camry received non-life-threatening injuries.
The name of the woman killed will not be released until the extended family is notified.
Authorities do not believe alcohol was involved, but are investigating whether seat belts were worn.
Assistance was provided by Prague Fire and Rescue, Morse Bluff Fire and Rescue, Cedar Bluffs Fire and Rescue, North Bend Fire and Rescue, Fremont Fire and Nebraska State Patrol.
