Revive Sports Thrift Store hosting a half price sale event

HASTINGS, Neb. (Nebraska) – Purchasing sporting goods might re-budget, but a local nonprofit is making it a little easier to get by. Revive Sports Thrift Store has its St. Patty’s Lucky Days Half Price Sale now through Sunday.

The store has a variety of sporting goods to choose from. Officials opened the shop several years ago because they wanted all children to be able to try out a sport.

“We have baseball bats, softball bats, helmets, gloves, all that kind of stuff for a couple bucks you know and that way the family doesn’t have to invest a lot of money to get their kid to try a sport and then maybe they don’t like it.” after a year or two,” said Dan Rutt, director of Revive Ministries.

Rutt said the Revive Sports Thrift Store’s mission is to help kids stay active and find a sport that fits their personality. It all started when a group of men found their passion on the greens.

“We have about six or eight young people who borrowed some golf equipment about four or five years ago and fell in love with golf and still play golf together,” Rutt said. “So that was the goal and it was worth it.”

Rutt hopes a few dollars can bring the same feeling to more children in need.

“They’re $1 or $2 a piece. I think you can get a golf set for between $25 and $75,” Rutt said. “Everything here is negotiable. Dennis has a landline directly with me, so if anyone wants to come and want to have a little fight, he’ll call me and we’ll try to work with them.

Rutt said they’re always trying to make everything accessible, and they even sold out some items last year.

“I think we ran out of baseballs and softballs last year,” Rutt said. “I think we only charge 50 cents a piece for them. So they are very cheap but yeah, they get out the door pretty fast.

Rutt said sometimes the artist would come in and offer sporting goods for their project. Adding up, the goal is to impact a child and get him to try a sport that he might not have tried if he hadn’t come to Revive Sports Thrift Store.
