Results of a recent poll show that half of Americans think that student loan forgiveness program is not fair to those who didn’t attend college
According to the results of a study conducted by The Economist and YouGov, fifty percent of American adults think that President Biden’s plan to eliminate student loan debt is unfair to people who did not attend college.
When it comes to the government’s intention to forgive between $10,000 and $20,000 in student loan debt for persons making less than $125,000 annually, the study indicated that respondents were relatively divided on the issue overall:
In keeping with my campaign promise, my Administration is announcing a plan to give working and middle class families breathing room as they prepare to resume federal student loan payments in January 2023.

According to the survey, 51 percent support it, and 34 percent of those do so “strongly.” In the meanwhile, forty percent of people are against it, and nine percent are unsure about it. Independents continue to be reasonably split, with 44 percent in favor of the plan and 42 percent opposed to it. As was to be expected, Democrats are in a far stronger position to support Biden’s proposal than Republicans are.
Nevertheless, in spite of the greater level of support among respondents, fifty percent of those polled believe that it is unfair to Americans who did not attend college. Of those fifty percent, thirty-three percent “strongly” agree that it is unfair, while thirty-seven percent disagree that it is unfair and thirteen percent are still unsure.
Despite this, 61 percent of respondents feel that the proposal will still “benefit millions of Americans, especially those in low-income households.” This is despite the fact that 57 percent of respondents believed the plan is unjust to Americans who previously paid off their student loans. However, the majority of Americans do not believe that this change would be beneficial to the economy, with only 44 percent saying that it will be and 40 percent saying that it will not.
The study, which was conducted among 1,500 adult citizens of the United States from August 28-30, 2022, comes as Democrats continue to celebrate Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan as a first step in the right direction.
In the meantime, radical leftists like Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) have already made it quite plain that Americans who oppose the comprehensive plan proposed by the Democrats are being self-centered.
