Rain and snow arriving in the region tonight..
HASTINGS, Neb. (Nebraska) – Clouds continue to roll north ahead of the next weather system to bring precipitation to the Local 4 area this evening and overnight. Scattered rain showers will develop south of the Interstate and there may be a peal of thunder or two with some instability in place. North of the Interstate, the initial showers will turn to snow with mostly snow in the already cold air of our area’s northernmost counties.

Some accumulations smaller than a track of up to an inch are possible north of Grand Island with larger amounts in northern areas, which are looking at 1 to 3 inches with an isolated area being up to 4 inches.

Precipitation for the Tri-Cities area is expected to build in the mid to late evening, then move east by Thursday morning. There is a small chance of a late snowfall coming out in the early hours of Thursday as morning temperatures dip below freezing. Thursday will be a little cooler with temperatures in the 40s to 50s as the day starts overcast with clouds clearing up in the afternoon. Winds will be from the northeast between 5 and 10 mph.

For the remainder of the week and into the weekend, a stream of southwesterly winds overhead will introduce a series of disturbances that will maintain precipitation, mainly as rain around the Local 4 area, but there will be chances for the Tri -Cities light Friday into Saturday. The next best chance for rain will come Saturday evening through Sunday morning with the possibility of snow mixing with rain as temperatures hover just above freezing. After a period of calm, another storm will reignite some rain showers on Sunday evening. Warmer temperatures are forecast for the middle of next week.
