OMAHA, Neb. (Nebraska) — Nebraska will participate in a brand new professional volleyball championship.
The Pro Volleyball Federation announced on Monday that it is launching a franchise in Omaha for the league’s inaugural season in 2024. The team will be owned by Omaha businessman Danny White and artist Jason Derulo, according to a press release.
“This is another special day for the Pro Volleyball Federation,” he said Dave Whinham, founder of the Pro Volleyball Federation. “We always knew we wanted a team in Omaha and knew it would take a special ownership group to live up to the enormous potential of the Omaha market.
“We know we have found that special group and are so excited to see what Danny and Jason will do to undoubtedly make Omaha a top franchise in our league.”
According to the release, White is a seasoned entrepreneur and founder/CEO of City+Ventures, one of the fastest growing companies in the United States and the fastest growing company in the state of Nebraska. He is also a close associate of the Burrow family, which has deep ties to the state of Nebraska.
Jimmy Burrow, director of brand advancement for the Pro Volleyball Federation, is a former football player and coach at the University of Nebraska and Jamie, son of Jimmy and older brother of Joe Burrow, is a former All-Big 12 linebacker for the Cornhuskers who still resides in Omaha.
Omaha is the second market to be publicly announced. The team will hold a local celebration in Omaha over the next few weeks to officially introduce the city to its first major women’s professional sports team.
Nebraska’s women’s volleyball program has led the nation since 2013. Omaha, which hosted the 2022 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championships in December, made headlines when last season’s matchup between Nebraska and hometown Creighton was played in front of 15,797 fans in the same arena. At the time, the game set the record for the largest crowd for a regular season volleyball game in NCAA history.
HUGE news from @RealProVB as businessman Danny White and singer @Jason Derulo are launching a franchise in the volleyball hotbed of Omaha, Nebraska!
Omaha is now the second market announced by PVF which will feature 8-10 different markets by its February 2024 launch.
