Pregnant dog stolen from front porch: police ask for help finding thief

While many people have dealt with having their dog lost or misplaced, finding out that someone has stolen your dog is another heartbreak.

A family in Prince George’s County, Maryland has video footage proving their puppy was taken off their porch – and their dog is still missing.

Doorbell camera footage shows a woman wearing slippers on the porch of a house in District Heights at about 5:35 a.m. on March 6 and approached 5-year-old dachshund mix Canela.

The dog barked a few times as the woman approached and knelt, and even lunged at her as she approached, but the woman seemed unperturbed.

She said dog sit down and wait until it settles down enough for her to pick it up before calmly returning to the man waiting outside.

To make matters worse, Canela was pregnant and the owners believe the thief stole her to try to sell the puppies. According to one of them, the thief came earlier and asked about the dog.

“Sometimes she was outside alone,” said the owner of Telemundo-44. WRC-TV. “We feel like the person who stole her already knew about her because she even spoke to her daughter once, asking her if the dog was hers. And my daughter said, “Yes.”

On Wednesday, the Prince George’s County Police Department released footage of the thief and asked the public for help in identifying her.

“Please watch: detectives have released video of a suspect who recently stole a dog outside of a home in District Heights,” the department said in a Facebook post. mail read. “The dog is a five-year-old female dachshund named Canela.

“This theft occurred on March 6, 2023, at approximately 5:35 am, at the 6200 block of Foster Street in an unincorporated portion of District Heights.

“The video shows how the suspected woman goes to the porch of the house and approaches the dog. She ends up taking the dog. A second suspect is believed to be involved in the theft.

“If you recognize this suspect or have any information on Canela’s whereabouts, please call 301-516-5230 and refer to case number 23-0013648.”

The commenters wrote to warn people not to leave their dogs unattended and to express their dissatisfaction on behalf of the owner. Others had more pithy bits of encouragement.

“She can’t be far away,” one commenter replied, referring to the thief. “She’s wearing fluffy slippers.”

Let’s hope that with the video circulating on the Internet, someone will know criminal and help reunite the dog with its original family.
