Papillion-La Vista Community Schools Reach $1 Million Settlement After Student’s Death

PAPILLION, Nebraska (Nebraska) — Papillion-La Vista Community Schools reached a $1 million settlement after a 14-year-old student died last year.

According to court documents, a wrongful death settlement was reached between the student’s parents and the school district on December 21, 2022. The settlement agreement includes the complete release of the school district from any liability.

The settlement stems from an incident in May 2022 in which 14-year-old Jagger Shaw needed a medical emergency at school.

Shaw later died at the Children’s Hospital and Medical Center.

The settlement will be publicly confirmed by the school board during a meeting on Monday evening.
