Pakistan officials seek explanation from Biden after he called Pakistan “one of the most dangerous countries in the world”
The head of Pakistani diplomacy, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, responded today to US President Joe Biden’s comment that this South Asian country is “one of the most dangerous countries in the world”.
Minister Zardari said that his office will invite the American ambassador for a conversation, and Biden’s statement was rejected as baseless by the current prime minister and two of his predecessors.
Biden, speaking about China and its leader Xi Jinping, said two days ago that he was thinking about the role of the United States in relation to China and its positions towards Russia, India and Pakistan.
– How do we solve this in relation to what is happening in Russia? And in terms of what I think is perhaps one of the most dangerous countries in the world: Pakistan. Nuclear weapons without any cohesion, he said.
Zardari said today that he discussed this issue with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and that they decided to call the American ambassador to explain Biden’s comment.
– When Pakistan has nuclear assets, it knows how to keep them and how to protect them, said Zardari.
Prime Minister Sharif dismissed Biden’s remarks in a statement, calling them factually incorrect.
He said that Pakistan has proven itself over the years as a responsible nuclear power and that its nuclear program is managed through a technically sound command and control system.
He pointed to Pakistan’s commitment to global standards, including those of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Sharif said Pakistan and the US have a long history of friendly and mutually beneficial relations.
