Southwest Airlines is giving passengers the option to receive a free Companion Pass for travel beginning in early 2023
WASHINGTON — As part of their most recent promotion for forthcoming trips, Southwest Airlines is giving passengers the option to receive a free Companion Pass for travel beginning in early 2023.
However, if you are interested in taking advantage of this deal, you will need to move quickly.
You must first be a member of Southwest’s frequent flyer program, Rapid Rewards, in order to be eligible for the deal. Next, you must register for the offer on Southwest’s website in order to be eligible for the campaign.
After registering, travelers have until Thursday, September 8 to purchase either a round trip flight or two one-way flights. After that, you have until Thursday, November 17 to complete your trip. Southwest emphasizes that the promotion is not applicable to any flights that are bought with Rapid Rewards points of any kind.
Those who sign up and travel by that date will be eligible to receive a Companion Pass, which is essentially like a buy-one-get-one-free deal and allows travelers to bring one person along for free on Southwest flights between January 4, 2023 and March 3, 2023. Those who sign up and travel by that date will receive their Companion Pass. According to the airline, the individual who is utilizing the Companion Pass is still responsible for paying taxes and fees starting at $5.60 for one way.
Companion Passes on Southwest Airlines are typically only given out to customers who have flown with the airline 100 times or earned a total of 125,000 points in a single calendar year.
On Southwest’s website, passengers may see all of the regulations and information that pertain to the Companion Pass program.
The airline deal comes as the season for taking summer vacations is beginning to wind down officially. Airlines report that corporate travel is still about 25 percent below 2019 levels, despite the fact that leisure travel in the United States has roughly returned to pre-pandemic levels and even surpassed 2019 numbers over the Labor Day weekend.
On Tuesday, representatives from Southwest stated that the next two weeks will be crucial in order to measure demand for business travel.
The airline made the announcement earlier this year that it intended to spend more than $2 billion to enhance the experience of flying for its customers. Among other things, the company promised to provide faster internet service, power outlets at every seat on new aircraft, and larger overhead bins for carry-on bags.
