One person fatally shot at smoke shop in New York: ‘Robbery went wrong’

Police said one person was killed during a “botched robbery” at a smokehouse in Queens.

The fatal episode occurred at the Plug Smoke Shop, a CBD and THC dispensary at 109-27 Jamaica Ave., shortly after noon on Saturday, police said.

The NYPD said police, responding to a report of gunshots, found a 20-year-old worker with a gunshot to the chest.

Police said the mortally wounded man was taken to a Jamaica medical center where he was pronounced dead.

There were no arrests.

“It’s the same story. They get robbed because they’re in the cash business and they have drugs, it’s two to one,” said one weary Queens cop.

In addition, there are more than 1200 [smoke shops] in the city. They are in every neighborhood, good and bad.”

CBD tubes were scattered outside the smokehouse, which may indicate that the robbers dropped CBD cartridges and other drug paraphernalia during the robbery.

The murder is just another wave of gunfights involving the city’s smoke shops.

Last month, a man was fatally shot in a Harlem smokehouse near the busy intersection of 125th Street and Fifth Avenue, police and sources said.

Dramatic surveillance footage captures the aftermath of the murder in Level Up Exotics – the victim stumbles across the street and falls into a pool of blood.

An upsurge of violence at the smokehouse has forced cops to step up patrols to deal with what has become a “citywide problem,” as The Post previously reported.

Within weeks, police at each precinct were instructed to compile a list of smoke shops in their area and give them “special attention,” the sources said.

One far-sighted Queens cop at the time said, “The problem is you have to change the list all the time because new stores pop up overnight.

“It’s a double win for criminals, they get both money and marijuana.”

“You must be kidding me. This must be stopped. Right now the city is out of control and we need to take back our city,” said activist Fernando Mateo, who spoke on behalf of the city’s wine cellar owners who were ambushed by the attackers.
