On Wednesday, Carter Lake Elementary School held an active shooting drill.
CARTER LAKE, Iowa (Nebraska) — An intense shooting exercise drew large numbers of police officers to the Carter Lake Elementary School on Wednesday.
The school itself is now in spring break, but staff and teenage students from outside the school have volunteered to take part in the exercise.
The Carter Lake Fire Department, the police and the Office of Emergency Management were responsible for conducting the exercise.
“We’ve been working on this for the past six months, trying to get it all together, coordinate and spread the word. It was a long planning process, but it was worth it,” Assistant Fire Chief Dave Huey said.
According to an archive of gun violence, there have been 112 mass shootings in the country so far in 2023.
