Omaha driver hit traffic signal Sunday morning; the single-vehicle crash fatal for one person, police

OMAHA, Nebraska — A single-vehicle accident that occurred early Sunday morning resulted in the death of one individual.

Officers were dispatched to the area of 72nd and Pine after reports of a crash involving a single car.

According to the officials, the incident occurred around 7:03 a.m. On Sunday, witnesses claim that a driver traveling south on 72nd in a 2021 Toyota Rav 4 ran a red light. The witnesses state that the incident occurred. The vehicle subsequently made a sharp turn to the right and was involved in a collision with the traffic signal’s concrete foundation.

The driver was sent to Bergan Mercy Hospital with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in process; nevertheless, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The driver has been identified by the police as Mario L. Louis, who is 46 years old.

The collision is being looked into by the police.
