NYC man steals car with 2-year-old in back seat, NYPD footage shows

New surveillance footage captures the moment a brazen thief stole an idling car — with a 2-year-old girl in the back seat — to go on a joyride in the Bronx.

Released by the NYPD early Wednesday, the video shows a man exiting the back seat of a gold 2018 Honda Accord on Bronxwood Avenue near E. 225th Street in Williamsbridge – and getting behind the wheel of a parked 2020 Toyota Highlander around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

He drove off in the SUV with the toddler sitting in the back seat.

Footage shows the suspect getting out of the back seat of another car and walking toward the idling Toyota.

The suspect had just enough time to ride away with the Toyota while the child’s grandfather had stepped away.

The tot’s 43-year-old grandfather left the Highlander running as he briefly stepped away, leaving enough time for the suspect to strike, cops said.

The car thief drove more than two miles before he dumped the car — with the little girl inside — at Edson Avenue and E. Gun Hill Road in Pelham Gardens, police said.

The child was not hurt, but was taken to Jacobi Medical Center for a medical evaluation, authorities said.
