Nothing Phone (1) officially announced, ‘cheap’ smartphone that was built to be here for a while
The Nothing brand officially presented its first smartphone, the Nothing Phone (1).
From what was seen in the series of teasers we’ve seen in the past weeks, as well as the leaks of the specifications, finally all the details of the Nothing Phone (1) are known.
The smartphone comes with a recycled aluminum frame, a 6.55-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a maximum brightness of 1,200 nits, while the touch sampling rate is 240 Hz. The panel is protected by Gorilla Glass 5, the four edges are symmetrical, and the device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G+ processor. On the back there is a 50 MP main camera (Sony IMX766) with optical image stabilization and a 50 MP ultra-wide camera (Samsung JN1). A 16 MP selfie camera (Sony IMX471) is placed in the display cutout.
The fingerprint sensor is integrated into the screen, and the smartphone uses Nothing OS (1) based on Android 12. Nothing promises that the software will be “lightweight” and reliable, and also promises three years of Android upgrades and four years of security updates every two months.
The software comes with a few small additions for Android, among them Quick Settings on TWS headphones, as well as Tesla car controls that let you turn on the lights before getting into the car, turn on the air conditioner, and more.
The device is powered by a 4,500 mAh battery that supports 33W wired, 15W wireless and 5W reversible charging. In case of wired charging, the battery is fully charged in 70 minutes, while this time increases to 120 minutes in case of wireless charging. Nothing sells the 45W charger separately at a price of 35 euros.
Nothing Phone (1) has IP53 certification for water resistance. It stands out in the market due to the transparent back panel and Glyph interface LEDs placed next to the functional parts of the mobile phone, so that they can display relevant information. For example, when the mobile phone is charging, the LEDs will serve as an indicator, and it is possible to synchronize with the ringing sound.
Nothing Phone (1) with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory will cost 469 euros, while the version that offers 256 GB of internal memory will cost 499 euros. The offer will include a model with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory at a price of 549 euros.
Sales start on July 16 in Great Britain, and after July 21 the smartphone will be available in Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Israel, Malaysia, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania , Saudi Arabia, Spain, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and Macau.
