Nebraska State Legislature Proposes Private School Scholarship Tax Credit Bill
LINCOLN, Nebraska (Nebraska) – A bill to provide a tax credit for private school scholarships was introduced in the Nebraska Legislature on Wednesday.
The Senators voted 31-12 to move LB753 forward.
The Scholarship Act will allow for $25 million in tax credits in the first year. Experts predict that the program will grow to $39 million in two years.
The bill now faces two more rounds of voting; The next step is registration and verification. Meanwhile, a related amendment proposed by state senator Megan Hunt failed 15–31. AM507 would have added anti-discrimination language to the LB753 proposal.
Also on Wednesday, lawmakers held another day of hearings, one of which was on a bill to build a new football stadium in Omaha.
The LB622 will enable the construction of a state sports stadium in Omaha.
LB622, dubbed the Sports Arena Funding Facilitation Act, will allow the construction of a publicly owned, open-air stadium that includes a 5,000-7,000 permanent outdoor sports field.
