Nebraska man, former doctor in Lincoln, has been arrested and charged for allegedly sexually abusing his patients, police

LINCOLN (TheSarpyCounty), Nebraska – Former Lincoln physician allegedly sexually assaulted patients in various states of recovery, addiction, and mental health problems.

Thursday morning, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office and the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force served an arrest warrant on Scott Schmidt, 54, at his residence in south Lincoln. Schmidt was arrested, and then investigators executed a search warrant at the residence.

Instances involving two of his patients that occurred between January 1 and July 1 of this year resulted in his arrest for first- and second-degree sexual assault. The patient was treated for substance abuse and mental health difficulties.

One patient claims Schmidt questioned him about his drinking habits, went to his apartment, and exposed himself, according to court documents.

Another patient, who first hailed Schmidt as a “nice doctor” and provided him his phone number, subsequently stated that he thought Schmidt would cut him off from his meds if he did not comply with his request to give him sexual images.

According to court filings, a third patient says Schmidt engaged in oral intercourse with him while under the influence of prescribed medications. The man’s attorney is currently investigating whether the prescription medications were really necessary.

The arrest warrant affidavit includes sexual assault allegations from five former patients who stated that the alleged offenses occurred at Schmidt’s residence and, in one instance, at the residence of one of the patients. The following statement was issued by the attorneys for four of the claimed victims.

The investigation is ongoing and the Sheriff’s Office would still urge anyone with information or who was sexual victimized by Schmidt to contact the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at (402) 441-6500.
