NATO wants serious talks with Russia on arms control

NATO wants a “serious arms control talks” with Russia, but will not compromise on basic principles, Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told a news conference.

Stoltenberg said the principles included “the right of every nation to choose its own security arrangements”.

The top official of the Alliance called on Russia to de-escalate the crisis with Ukraine. He made the remarks after NATO today gave Moscow a written response to its security proposals for Europe.

Stoltenberg added that the Alliance is ready to engage in a constructive dialogue with Moscow to find a political solution to the recent tensions.
