National Weather Service radar maintenance is underway at the North Platte office

NORTH PATTE, Neb. (Nebraska) – The National Weather Service’s radar in Thedford will be down for a week while the fuel tanks and generator are replaced.

Meteorologists from the North Platte office said there is no need for the public to be alarmed.

“This is important and I want to make sure everyone understands this. We have seven other radars that will be able to service this area, so we have all the tools we need to get the job done,” said Shawn Jacobs, NWS warning coordinator.

The National Weather Service said it relies heavily on storm watchers during the severe weather season and encourages anyone interested to attend the training on March 21 at 7:00 p.m. at North Platte Community College North Campus.
