Despite significant sales growth, Volkswagen’s electric trump card failed to reach the lead.
According to the latest data, the best-selling electric model in Europe comes from Tesla Motors. It is a Model 3, which has an annual sales growth of as much as 84% and with 113,397 units sold in the first 11 months of this year is far ahead of the second place. And that is VW ID.3, which recorded a sales growth of 125% and a total of 63,109 units sold.
Recall, the Model 3 in September was the best-selling model in Europe in the overall competition. Now another Tesla model could take on the role of flag bearer. Namely, Model Y managed to overtake Volkswagen ID.3 and ID.4 in November and has two other important obstacles, namely Renault Zoe and Dacia Spring. Obviously, Tesla Motors will reach a market share of 2% in the Western European market and will position itself above the Jaguar Land Rover.
Matthias Schmidt, author of the report on the sale of electric vehicles in Europe, told Auto News that after all the market shocks and shortages of semiconductors, sales of electric cars in Western Europe will reach 11%, while only Tesla Motors will end the year with about 170,000 copies sold in Europe. Volkswagen still has the lead in electric vehicle sales, with around 300,000 electric vehicles sold in Europe. Stellantis will be third, while Renault Nissan Group will take fourth place. At the same time, Dacia Spring saw a big increase in sales in November, which was better than the aforementioned Tesla Model Y.
