Myrtle Beach Airport to remain open despite flights cancellations

HORRY COUNTY, South Carolina – Due to the anticipated effects of Tropical Storm Ian, government offices and courts in Horry County will be closed on Friday.

Thursday at 5 p.m., all parks in the county of Horry will close. Thursday through Saturday, Horry County will not support any outdoor athletic events.

In addition to these restrictions, all branches of the Horry County Memorial Library will be closed on Friday because of the storm.

The Myrtle Beach International Airport will remain operational, but airlines will begin to cancel flights.

American Airlines has already canceled some Friday flights and made other adjustments.

Travelers are recommended to verify with their carrier as additional changes may occur.

FlightAware reports that 3,500 flights have been canceled as a result of Hurricane Ian. The majority of flight cancellations originate from Florida airports.

The airport will remain operational and staffed.
