Murder suspect extradited back to Omaha

OMAHA, Nebraska (TheSarpyCounty) – A suspect in a murder committed in August has been extradited back to Omaha, but his return was not without difficulty.

Wuanya Smith, age 20, is accused of killing Anthony Collins III, age 20, on August 12.

Smith, according to police, fled the city and was eventually apprehended in Benton, Arkansas.

Smith escaped while incarcerated in the Saline County, Arkansas, jail. Eventually, he was located at a residence in Little Rock.

Smith will likely be charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and breach of probation.

A separate allegation of accessory to a felony relating to a 2021 incident in which he reportedly fled from police during an attempted traffic check was also filed against him.
