Manhattan robbery suspect opens fire on police officer

A New York City cop and a robbery suspect were gunned down Wednesday night in Manhattan.

The shootout occurred as police answered a call from five men who were trying to rob a victim at the Marble Hill homes on 225th Street near Exterior Street around 9:30 p.m., officials said.

According to the NYPD, when the police arrived, one of the suspects opened fire on them.

One officer returned fire before the suspects fled into Manhattan’s northernmost enclave, police said.

No one was hurt, but the officers were checked at the hospital for tinnitus, which is standard procedure after the police used their weapons.

Five suspects in the robbery attempt remained on the run Thursday morning, according to the NYPD.
