Man with warrants attacked police officer Lincoln during a chase

LINCOLN, Nebraska (Nebraska). On Monday morning, Lincoln police arrested a 28-year-old man for assaulting an officer.

Police surrounded an apartment building near 19th and Sumner Streets just before 2 a.m. looking for a man with multiple active warrants.

Police said Nathan M. Shepard jumped out of a first floor window and knocked one of the officers to the ground. The police officer suffered neck, head and hand injuries.

Police said Shepard then broke free from the second officer’s grasp and continued to run, but other officers in the area were able to take Shepard into custody.

Shepard was taken to jail and charged with third-degree assault on an officer, resisting arrest in a second offense, and obstructing a police officer’s work. Shepard’s previous warrants included a misdemeanor assault investigation, an escape to avoid arrest, and a valid misdemeanor warrant.
