Man was seriously injured when a truck crashed into horse on Illinois Route 47 early Thursday

KANE COUNTY, ILLINOIS – Early Thursday morning, a man was critically hurt when his vehicle collided with a horse while traveling on Illinois Route 47.

A guy from Hampshire, age 39, was driving south on Route 47 in a Dodge Ramm pickup truck when, according to the Kane County sheriff’s office, he collided with a “big” horse near the intersection of Rohrsen Road.

At approximately 12:40 in the morning, the deputy who was sent to the location discovered the truck off the roadway and the horse atop it. It has been determined by the sheriff’s office that the truck appeared to have hit the horse and then fled the scene following the collision.

The patient was airlifted to Lutheran General Hospital in a helicopter.

Deputies had a conversation with the horse’s owner, who was actively looking for the animal at the time. The rider is under the impression that the horse was suffering from a medical condition and escaped from the stable before to the accident.

Kane County Drone Team, Pingree Grove Fire/EMS, Kane County Office of Emergency Management, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), and LifeNet provided assistance to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office during this incident.

As of right now, the inquiry is still in progress, and no citations have been handed out.
