Man drove off icy road into South Lincoln Pond
LINCOLN, Nebraska (Nebraska) – A man escaped a sinking car Wednesday after driving into a pond south of Lincoln.
Acting Lincoln Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Jeff Topil said the accident happened shortly before 4:40 p.m. in a pond near Yankee Hill Drive and Executive Woods Drive.
A passer-by and a Lincoln police officer jumped into the water to help the driver, but they all got out safely.
The driver was taken to the hospital for examination and is expected to be fine.
The car was completely submerged shortly after the driver fled. Divers arrived at the scene around 6:00 p.m. and were waiting for a tow truck to take the car out.
LFR believes slippery roads played a role in the accident.
