Man arrested, found with stolen firearm after incident in city center

LINCOLN, Nebraska (Nebraska) – The Lincoln Police Department recovered a stolen firearm and arrested a man following an incident in downtown last week.

On Friday, March 10, at 20:24, police officers were expelled to the area of 8th and P Streets on the fact of violating the rules for handling weapons.

The 23-year-old man said he was giving his girlfriend a lift in the area when a car stopped behind him and honked, according to the LPD.

The LPD said the man claimed the driver of the car also started yelling at him. The victim told the other driver to be patient while he waited for his girlfriend to get into the car and drive off.

The victim reportedly told officers that another vehicle then pulled up next to him and the driver pointed a black revolver at him.

Investigators said the driver was later identified as 24-year-old Riley Scott.

At 11:45 p.m. Tuesday evening, officers from the Lincoln-Lancaster County Drug Enforcement Task Force saw Scott leaving his home near 32nd and R Streets.

The LPD said officers knew Scott was wanted in connection with the March 10 riots.

According to the LPD, the officers got out of their patrol cars and Scott ran away. Officers claim they saw Scott reach for something on his belt, throw away the towel, and then take something in his right hand.

According to police, Scott crashed into a small mesh fence and fell, and as he fell over the fence, officers claim they heard a sound like a metal object being struck as it slid across the ground.

The LPD said there was a struggle at the time of Scott’s arrest.

Officers claim to have found a 9mm Taurus handgun and determined it was stolen on October 7, 2022 near 48th Street and Huntington.

The LPD also claims they found three syringes with residual methamphetamine.

Scott was arrested for possession of a stolen firearm, possession of controlled substances, terrorist threats, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, and other charges.
