Make-A-Wish Nebraska Celebrates 40th Anniversary at Annual Ball

LINCOLN, Neb. (Nebraska) — Make-A-Wish Nebraska hosted its annual ball on Saturday, in addition to celebrating its 40th anniversary.

The Nebraska branch has granted more than 3,000 wishes since its inception in 1983, for children diagnosed with terminal illnesses.

They sent children all over the world. Some of the more popular places are Hawaii and Disneyland.

The annual ball is one of their biggest fundraisers, and the organizers hope to set a new record of more than $160,000 in donations this year.

“We know that when we grant a wish it’s not just that moment or that experience, it’s something that stays with people for a lifetime,” said Regional Director Melissa Davis-Schmit. “Once you’ve been affected by that desire, it’s only with you. It’s pure joy, forever.

One little boy got an extra special surprise at prom, which was a live wish reveal. He found out he was going to Disneyland.
