Lots of sun but quite cold for the next couple of days
HASTINGS, Neb. (Nebraska) – We started the day gloomy, but the sun decided to return this afternoon giving most of us a decent day. The coldest spots were in the east, where highs only reached in the 2030s. We’ve seen the 40s and 50s for everyone else. With the departure of that system which brought some freezing drizzle this morning, we are now enjoying clear skies for the rest of the evening and throughout the night. It will be quite cold during the night. Especially up north, as the lows will fall in the teens. Elsewhere, lows will bottom out in the lower-mid 20s. Winds will be light overnight out of the Northeast between 3 and 8 mph, but picking up early tomorrow morning out of the Northwest between 15 and 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph.
More sunshine than most of us have seen for a week will return Sunday and Monday, but unfortunately the weather will remain a bit chilly as cold Canadian high pressure fills in from the north. Sunday’s highs will range from the mid-20s in the north to the low 40s in northern Kansas. It will look like a little warmer Monday with highs from about 30° Northeast to the mid 40s Southwest. We will see a sharp rise in temperatures on Tuesday as southerly winds pick up. Highs Tuesday will range from about 50° Northeast to the mid-60s Southwest. Wednesday will be the hottest day of the week and a really nice day with partly sunny skies. Highs will range from the mid/upper 50’s north to about 70° in northern Kansas. Unfortunately, cooler air will return south to the area on Thursday and by late next week behind our next big weather system. This system could eventually bring with it not only colder temperatures but also the possibility of snow accumulation.
