Lincoln Police Hire Public Relations Officer
LINCOLN, Nebraska (Nebraska). The Lincoln Police have hired a public affairs officer to represent the department during daily media briefings.
Erica Thomas is the first person in this position in the Lincoln Police Department to have worked as a journalist, according to a departmental press release. Erica has spent two decades in newsrooms across the country, working as a producer, reporter and most recently evening host in Northwest Arkansas.
She attended the University of Missouri at Columbia and graduated summa cum laude with a dual degree in radio journalism and economics.
“The position of public information manager is incredibly important to any police department in this country in 2023,” Lincoln Police Chief Teresa Ewens said. “As a former media employee, Erica knows firsthand how to get our news to the media accurately and in a timely manner. Building on our already active social media presence, Erica will rely on her valuable news experience to keep our public informed about Lincoln Law Enforcement news both through the media and through our Lincoln Police presence on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.”
Erica will start working for LPD at the end of March.
Two of the recent PIO LPDs, Erin Spilker and Angela Sands, sued the city alleging sexual harassment and discrimination in the police department.
