Lincoln man injured, Nebraska authorities removed explosives from his house

NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska – On Monday, members of the Nebraska State Patrol retrieved explosives from a home in the town of Sutherland.

During the early hours of Monday morning, a male went to the Emergency Room at Great Plains Health in North Platte, as stated in a press release issued by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. The victim appeared to be suffering from a wound consistent with that caused by either a gunshot or some kind of explosion.

When deputies arrived at Great Plains Health, they spoke with a resident of Sutherland named Phillip Compton, who was 47 years old. Mr. Compton told the officers that his companion was tampering with something metal when it exploded in Sutherland. Compton stated that his friend had most likely lost all or a significant portion of his hand in the explosion.

Deputies with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office were successful in making contact with the second individual, and they determined that he is Charles Tederman, age 55, from Sutherland. Tederman claimed that he was playing around with a piece of metal and a high-powered rifle shell. He then let go of both of them, at which point the shell exploded. Tederman sustained injuries to his hand that rendered him unable to use it, and he was eventually transferred to another hospital for treatment.

Following the execution of a search warrant at Tederman’s home, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies discovered a number of objects that gave off the appearance of being explosive devices. The removal of the goods required the assistance of Bomb Technicians from the Nebraska State Patrol, who were called in. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reports that Tederman is forbidden from possessing firearms, thus they were able to seize a number of firearms and a significant amount of ammunition from the residence where he was staying.

The inquiry is still going on, and charges may yet be brought.
