Lincoln and Nebraska weather forecast for Wednesday: decreasing temperatures are coming

LINCOLN, Nebraska – The week’s summerlike start will continue to cool…

This week, two cold fronts will continue to affect the local forecast area. Slowly moving east, front number one is bringing scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms to sections of the state. As this boundary moves east, widespread, considerable precipitation is not forecast; nevertheless, some local places “may” see 0.25 to 0.50 inches of precipitation, while the majority will receive considerably less. This system and its associated precipitation will escape the region Wednesday morning, leaving the majority of 10-11 Country dry and seasonable under partly to mostly sunny skies Wednesday afternoon.

5-Day Outlook

Front #2 will enter the scene by Thursday AM. This boundary will bring a reduced likelihood of precipitation, but will usher in a much more dramatic cooling trend for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Thursday will act as a “transition” day, with highs in the 50s in northern Nebraska and well into the 70s in southern Nebraska. As the day progresses, falling temperatures and severe north winds will emerge. Temperatures will range from the low 30s to the low 40s on Friday morning, with frost or freezing conditions possible for some. The majority of Friday afternoon temperatures will be in the 50s. Again, FROST or FREEZE conditions will threaten the region on Saturday morning, with lows in the low to middle 30s across the most of the coverage area. By Saturday afternoon…temperatures are forecast to return to the 60s as the center of the coldest air moves to our east…and Sunday’s morning lows and afternoon highs look much more “seasonal.” Later in the week, we’ll have additional information about the potential FROST or FREEZE conditions, so stay tuned.
